Veliko Tyrnovo and Etyra

The architectural and ethnographic complex Etyra is located in the outskirts of the town Gabrovo. It is an open-air museum dedicated to presenting the architecture and the way of living in Gabrovo and the region in the second half of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. It was built in 1964 and it is declared as a cultural monument of national importance.

There are 50 sites in the complex – houses with craftsman’s workshops, water facilities and other buildings. There you can find the only collection of technical facilities powered with water. At the crafts’ bazar in Etyr, you can see 16 houses that are exact replicas of buildings that existed in the past in Gabrovo. The craftsman’s workshops are also open for the visitors who are interested in witnessing how different products are crafted.

In May there is an exhibition for kids who wish to present their paintings to the public. Every Saturday and Sunday during the summer season, the visitors can witness demonstrations of old home crafts – dyeing with natural dyes, knitting products from maize leaves, etc. There is a restaurant in the complex where you can try the local traditional food.

Near the town you can visit Arbanasi, which is a historical village, famous for its amazing architecture.
